Conventions: Why Bother?

Conventions: Why Bother?

At least that's the view of Mike Berman, a long-time Washington, D.C. lawyer and lobbyist who runs the "washington watch" blog.

He says they're a big waste of money and points out there hasn't been a multi-ballot convention for either party since 1952.

Here's the lead: The Democratic and Republican conventions are anachronisms at best. At worst they are the biggest waste of money in modern Presidential campaigns.

The best argument for watching the conventions this year is that nothing like them is likely to be seen again.

Check out the article and give me your thoughts. Are conventions past their time?

Conventions

Political Conventions. along with individual primary elections, and the Electoral College need to be done away with, for they serve no purpose other than to wastre a huge amount of money, time, and energy.

In their place, we need to have a National Primary in order that the individual voter, instead of a core of high falutin super delegates can determine who will represent the party.  Likewise, it should be the popular vote and not the electoral vote who determines the winner comes election day.

No one likes change, but sometimes change is essiential for survival.  We are at that point now.
